The wise pastor teaches all of his leaders that progress depends on their ability to take and give responsibility and accountability.
When a person is given responsibility, they must understand the need of accepting accountability. The little book "One Minute Manager" would be helpful to every person that has the responsibility of holding others accountable. I have always recommended that every leader in the church study that material.
The fact applies here that we should not expect results where training has not occurred. Our purpose is not to give a course of study in this important subject but to point out the great need. The book mentioned will help you with that. Keep it strongly in your mind and it will probably increase your results many fold. Men will only do what they are held accountable for.
Teach good godly men to be responsible and accountable. Note the destruction that occurred when this breaks down:
Gen 3:12 & 13, And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
I don't believe that you have to be a theologian to see the breakdown in responsibility here. Note also:
Gen 16:2, And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
Also Note:
Gen 27: 36, And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?
You might notice the awesome accountability and responsibility given to the pastor and the people in Heb 13: 17, Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. Then in verse 23, Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?
